Common questions

Is Baito an official JLPT app?

No. Baito is unofficial practice. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), the Japan Foundation or JEES. The questions are original practice material written in the style of the test. There is no listening section.

Which levels are there?

N5, N4 and N3, with kanji and vocabulary lists for each. Kanji and word levels follow the lists commonly cited by learners; no official lists have been published since 2010.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Baito is on iPhone for now, and Android is on the way.

I think a question is wrong.

Tap Report a problem under the question (or on any kanji or word page), add a note if you like, and send. It opens your own mail app with the details filled in, so you can see exactly what is sent. Every report is read, and fixes reach the app as updates.

How does the free version work?

You can start one test a day for free (three a day in your first week), and earn a few more by watching a short ad. Finishing a test you already started never counts again. You also get 20 flashcards a day, and the kanji and word lists are always free.

What does Baito Pro include?

Unlimited tests and flashcards, no ads, mistake review across all tests, Timed mode and accuracy for every section. It covers every level, including future ones. You can choose a yearly or monthly subscription, or pay once for lifetime access.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Baito. You can also get there from Settings > Baito Pro > Manage subscription in the app. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid the next charge; Baito Pro stays on until that period ends.

How do I get Baito Pro back on a new phone or after reinstalling?

In the app, go to Settings and tap Restore purchase under the Baito Pro card, signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy or subscribe. There is no extra charge.

How do I ask for a refund?

Payments go through Apple, so refunds do too. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple Account.

How do I keep my progress when I change phones?

If your iPhone is signed in to iCloud, Baito backs up your progress to your own iCloud automatically (Settings > iCloud). On your new phone, install Baito, sign in to the same iCloud account and tap Restore from iCloud.

You can also tap Export backup in Settings and save the file somewhere safe, for example in Files, or send it to yourself. On the new phone, tap Import backup. Importing only adds progress; it never deletes anything.

How do I turn furigana off?

In Settings, switch off Show Furigana. Kanji then appear without readings, as on the real test paper. N3 tests leave furigana off N5 and N4 kanji; switch on Also on N5-N4 kanji to show it there too.

Why does the app ask to track me?

The free version shows ads from Google. iOS asks whether you are happy for those ads to be tailored to you. Either answer works, and you see ads either way. Your study progress is never shared. See the privacy policy for details.
